Walnut
Walnuts, scientifically known as Juglans regia, are edible tree nuts that belong to the Juglandaceae family. They are native to regions in Central Asia and are now cultivated in many parts of the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia.
Walnuts are characterized by their hard, shell-like outer layer, which encloses the edible kernel inside. The kernels, commonly referred to as walnut “meat,” are the part of the nut that is consumed. They have a distinctive shape, resembling a miniature brain, and their shells are typically round or oblong with a ridged surface.
Walnuts are highly regarded for their rich flavor and crunchy texture. They have a mildly sweet and nutty taste with a hint of bitterness. The texture of the walnut meat is firm yet smooth, providing a satisfying crunch when eaten.
